The programme, in partnership with Imperial College London (lead), University of York and University of Leeds, is a transformative six-month cohort-based programme supporting early career researchers (ECRs) to launch high-potential start-ups applying artificial intelligence (AI) to solve real-world problems. The programme brings together experts across industry and academia, providing participants with the skills, knowledge and connections to develop robust, ethical and impactful AI ventures.
The University of Liverpool takes great pride in already having three of its researchers selected for Cohort One of this prestigious programme. They include:
- Dr Samuel Ball, Eye and Vision Sciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, who is developing OCTassist: AI Powered OCT image analysis for Eye Healthcare
- Dr Hatem Fakhruldeen, Department of Chemistry, School of Physical Sciences, who is developing a OChRA-lab framework for drug and material discovery labs
- Dr James Ingham from the Department of Physics, School of Physical Sciences, who is developing the LDIR Wand: an innovative instrument to transform oral cancer diagnosis.
The University of Liverpool’s Enterprise Team, within Research, Partnerships and Innovation (RPI), is looking forward to supporting Samuel, Hatem and James throughout their journey over the next six months and beyond.
Programme highlights include:
- Challenge-based learning focusing on developing AI solutions
- Masterclasses on AI systems, data management, intellectual property, business models and fundraising pathways
- 1:1 venture building support from experienced founders and investors
- £20k non-diluted seed funding opportunities
- Access to extensive expert networks and opportunities to build industry connections
- Showcasing opportunities to present to investors and industry leaders
- Access to Google Cloud credits and other world-leading organisations in AI computing technologies.
Eligibility:
- You must be a research fellow, postdoc, or late-stage PhD candidate with an AI technology at a proof-of-concept stage or beyond
- Based at the University of Liverpool (or one of the partner institutions)
- Looking to explore the commercialisation or licensing or your AI technology
- Postdocs and PhD candidates must have support and approval from their Principal Investigator or research supervisor to participate in the programme
