What is CATCH?

Clinical academia is where the worlds of healthcare and learning intersect. A clinical academic is a qualified healthcare professional who also works in academia, typically in research, teaching, or both. They help us care for patients with up-to-date, evidence-based treatments by engaging in cutting-edge teaching and research that advance our understanding of ill health and disease. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that this work is more important than ever, whether it is to help treat and prevent the spread of the virus or manage the wider implications of the pandemic on our health.

However this essential workforce is rapidly falling and it is vital that we inspire and recruit talented individuals into clinical academia to ensure we can continue to drive improvements in patient outcomes and maintain our world leading research capabilities.

CATCH (www.catch.ac.uk) aims to helps individuals at the early stage of their career navigate the world of clinical academia and promote the profession.

CATCH aims to:

• Showcase and promote the wide variety of exciting career options in clinical academia across a range of healthcare disciplines
• Provide practical advice on clinical academic career options across all four nations of the UK
• Highlight inspiring clinical academics at a variety of career stages to help build aspirations
• Build links between clinical practice and academia
