Charlie received his MSci degree in 2018 from the University of Nottingham, supervised by Prof. Liam Ball, and remained within the Ball Group to carry out his PhD studies through the Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Chemistry. His research focused on the development of small-ring cross-coupling reactions, using organobismuth nucleophiles. In October 2023, he began a one-year EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship developing modular routes to cyclopropane-containing amino acids, mentored by Dr Nick Mitchell. In October 2024, he moved to Liverpool to begin his postdoctoral studies within the Bower Group, developing novel methods in Iridium catalysis.
