Group work (GW) is a primary element of active learning. Effective design and delivery of group work can potentially foster deep learning, help boost students’ confidence and also their sense of belonging. In the current situation we are moving towards a hybrid model of teaching and group work has a key role to play here. Face-to-face interactions between students and lecturers are going to be minimised, as will peer-to-peer communication, so group work can provide a response by deepening engagement with the course and helping reduce loneliness and isolation. This guide provides an overview of the various ways of setting up and assessing group work using Canvas, MS Teams and Buddycheck.
