This toolkit is not designed to be used in any particular order, but rather has been split into four thematic areas that you might find useful depending on the question or query that you might have. These areas are:

Toolkit elements

Assessment Design

This Element of the Assessment and Feedback Toolkit concerns the construction and design of assessments. Here you will find tools to help you design new assessments, amend existing ones, get ideas and templates for assessments, and sample/template marking criteria/rubrics.

Assessment Literacy

This Element of the Assessment and Feedback Toolkit provides tools to help you improve students’ and staff understanding of assessments and improve how the parameters or requirements of assessments are communicated to students. In here you will find tools to help you improve the clarity, transparency and student/staff understanding of assessments and what they require.

Formative Assessment and Feedback

This Element of the Assessment and Feedback Toolkit looks at the formative assessment and feedback process and provides tools to help you make this process more engaging, interactive and connected to the summative assessment elements of your modules. In here you will find tools to help you make the most of the formative assessment and feedback process.

Feedback: Format and Practice

This Element of the Assessment and Feedback Toolkit provides tools to help you make better use of formal feedback and incorporate feedforward into your practice. In here you will find tools to help you get the most out of your feedback, use feedforward effectively, make sure you have included all of the elements of feedback that you need to, make your marking process easier, faster and more comprehensive, and ensure that students engage with your feedback.
