Innovation Fund Awards

The Centre for Innovation in Education (CIE) Innovation Fund is set up to support the development and research of innovative module or programme development and teaching practice, the fund is available to University of Liverpool Staff and Students through an annual applications process managed by the CIE Leadership Team.

Recipients of the grants will present their projects and findings at the University of Liverpool Learning & Teaching Conference and produce a case study aligning the project to the Liverpool Curriculum Framework.

Awards 2023

Four projects have been awarded grants from the Centre for Innovation in Education (CIE) Innovation Fund.

The successful applications were;

  • Development and evaluation of an equine auscultation simulator – Helen Braid and Waleed Al-Nuaimy (Equine Clinical Sciences)
  • LiftUpp – Implementation Phase at the University of Liverpool – Denis Duret, Alex German, Dan Batchelor, Frederike Schiborra, Emma Ormandy and Fernando Malalana (Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology)
  • Finding creative solutions to supporting WP students to engage in Year in Industry placement programmes – Kerry Traynor (Communication & Media), Kate Evans (CIE), Chris Barlow (ULMS), Amy Gerrard (SOTA), Stefan Melgaard and Selina Churchill (ITS)
  • The LivIPL Podcast – Rebecca Jopson, Daniel Blair and Pete Bridge (Radiotherapy and Oncology)

The applications were reviewed by a panel which including a Faculty representative and a representative of the Liverpool Guild of Students (LGoS). Rowan Bradbury, LGoS Vice President.

Awards 2022

Five projects have been awarded grants totalling £9,036 from the Centre for Innovation in Education (CIE) Innovation Fund.

The successful applications were;

  • Engaging students throughout the feedback process – Miss Edwina Rushe (School of Health Sciences)
  • Improving Undergraduate Understanding of Digital Dentistry through the use of a 3D Impression Learning Resource Mr Stephen Deboo (School of Dentistry)
  • Bringing biological sounds into the classroom: 3D-printing the creatures of the earth and the oceans – Dr Louise Roberts (Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences)
  • Enhancing and embedding digital Fluency in the curriculum through Adobe Creative Cloud – Dr Ahmed Al-Abdin (Management School
  • Enhancing Class Communication and Engagement – Mr Mark Wilcock (Management School)

The applications were reviewed by a panel which including a Faculty representative and a representative of the Liverpool Guild of Students (LGoS). Lina Dubbins, LGoS Vice President, was a member of the inaugural awards panel and commented, "It was a fantastic experience and an honour to take part in the review process as a panel member. Each application inspired me in one way or another and I am excited to see how these ideas will progress and flourish".
