Addressing questions about climate change, environment and health, and human-animal relations, among other topics, research in this theme draws together theory and methods from the humanities, social and natural sciences. Work in this this interdisciplinary group focuses on exploring the complex inter-relationship between societies and the environment, in the past and present. Current research includes:
- The implications of natural disasters, climate variability, extreme and mundane weather on societies
- Ecocriticism and representations of ecology and environment across literature, art, performance and film (including the Liverpool Studies in Literature and Environment book series).
- Perceptions of healthy and unhealthy environments
- The influence of environmental factors and animals on human health
- The management of environments and animals to ensure better health outcomes
- Fears and perceptions of zoonotic diseases
- Caring for animals and environments
- One Health/One Medicine
- Environmental Histories
