Master Canvas Quizzes

If you use Canvas quizzes but tend to stick with multiple-choice questions, you're missing out! We've created some very short video guides to demonstrate how easy it is to try question types that you might not have used before. We've also included guidance on how to get started with quizzes and make question banks.

If you're new to quizzes in Canvas, you'll find it easiest to follow the order below.  However, if you're used to setting up quizzes and would just like to look at some different question types, feel free to jump straight in.

Step 1: Create your Item Bank (0:45)

An Item Bank is a group of questions that you can add to quizzes later.  Although you don't have to use Item Banks to contain your quiz questions, it's worth doing because it allows much more flexibility later on including randomisation, and it allows you to use the same questions in multiple quizzes.

Step 2: Create a Blank Quiz (1:33)

You'll need to create a quiz in which to add questions from your Item Bank.  It only takes a minute and a half!

Step 3: Add Questions to your Item Bank

You can now start adding questions to your Item Bank.  Here are some demonstrations of different question types:

Multiple Choice

Matching

Categorising

Hot Spot

Fill in the Blanks

Step 4: Preview your Questions (1:29)

See how your questions will look to students.

Step 5: Build your Quiz (1:42)

How to transfer questions from your Item Bank to your quiz.
