Short film to promote LIV.INNO now available
A new short film to promote the LIV.INNO CDT has been produced. It can be used in meetings and at events as well as online to quickly summarise the project and why it is important. It features staff, students and industrial partners of the LIV.INNO CDT and its predecessor LIV.DAT talking about their work and why data science is important.
The film features researchers talking about subjects such as particle physics and astronomy which are areas of research funded by LIV.INNO. However, the data science techniques which are developed and used in this fundamental research can be used in a wide range of areas where the benefits to people’s everyday lives are perhaps more obvious.
Data science is used in medicine to design new drugs and diagnose diseases. It is used to facilitate facial recognition and other advanced types of computer security which we are becoming used to in our everyday lives. It is also used for weather forecasting, including long range weather forecasting which can predict the impact of climate change.
The data science techniques used in these areas of research are varied and include high performance computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analysis. However, what they all have in common is that they are likely to be become more common place in our everyday lives in the coming years.
