Liverpool Central Teaching Laboratories
The University of Liverpool's new Central Teaching Laboratories for the Faculty of Science and Engineering are set to transform the way in which Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Archaeology, Geography, and Earth and Ocean Science) are taught at the University.
The new three storey building is designed to enhance the student experience by creating high quality, contemporary learning facilities, to support new modular teaching courses and promote inter-disciplinary learning between the sciences. These facilities will also be made available to other University departments as well as outside organisations.
The building has been designed to be extremely energy efficient harnessing all the natural advantages the site offered and incorporating all the latest sustainable initiatives into the design to help the University reach its ambition of achieving a BREEAM "excellent" rating for the building including rainwater harvesting, a heat recovery system, air sourced heat pumps and solar panels, the building will have a low carbon footprint as it utilizes heat and power from the new constructed Energy Centre via the University of Liverpool's own network of district heating pipes and high voltage electricity network.
Work started on site on May 10 2010 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2011 for occupation early in 2012.
