Work has started on a £900,000 refurbishment of the University of Liverpool’s Life Sciences Building.

The work, which is scheduled to be complete in time for the new academic year in September, will modernise facilities and provide better access to the building.

The entrance, which is currently on Crown Street, will be moved to face the University’s Biosciences building, providing improved disabled access through a larger, more modern entrance.

Upgrade

The work will also include the upgrade of three lecture theatres with improved seating, lighting and AV equipment, as well as a new lift to service the building’s five floors.

Investment in the teaching environment is being made following student feedback and an audit of the quality of all University facilities on campus. It is the latest in a line of infrastructure improvements including the £25 million Central Teaching Laboratories which opened last year.

Investment

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Student Experience Professor Kelvin Everest, said: "This latest investment is just one part of a wider programme of scheduled improvements to learning and teaching facilities at the University. We are committed to providing a world-class student experience and research environment, which is why we are investing some £600 million in facilities."
