University of Liverpool Psychology student Ana Ribeiro, tells us more about her business Safe U and the Business and Enterprise in Psychology module.

As part of the Business and Enterprise module, Ana created Safe U, a company that aims to provide personal safety devices that promote a sense of safety, accessibility and discreetness.

“There has been a rise in attacks such as spiking, hate crimes and sexual assault and individuals are now choosing to stay in rather than go out. The current solutions of products for these issues are not widely accessible or well liked. This is why Safe U aims to provide products that are accessible, provide safety and are discreet when worn.”

Since starting the business, psychology students Ana, Emily O'Donoghue, Evangeline Donoghue, Hannah Jarvis and Carol Ann Duggan, have been successful in receiving a grant of £2000 from the University of Liverpool and Santander which will kickstart their pre-revenue business. You can read more about Safe U and the Young Enterprise Nationals here. They were further chosen to participate in the Young Enterprise Nationals where they were awarded Best Presentation Award. You can watch the full video below.

Ana said how the Business and Enterprise in Psychology was by far the most interesting and rewarding module throughout her degree and that it has taught her about the importance of resilience, communication, teamwork and how to overcome inevitable challenges along the way. Some of what you will learn within the module includes writing a business plan, making a sale, using your network, how to pitch, planning and presenting a business idea and marketing your experience to employers.

Ana is currently working for a mental health charity, Imagine Independence, as a support worker where she supports individuals with mental health problems and learning disabilities. The module has completely changed Ana’s future career plans due to the opportunities the Business and Enterprise module has given her as she is now undertaking a Masters in Occupational and Organisational Psychology at the University of Liverpool.
