Life Sciences Employability Week

The COIVD-19 pandemic has impacted the availability of graduate jobs and the methods employers are using to recruit.
Rest assured that leading employers are still on the lookout for talented individuals but competition for roles is high. Now more than ever it’s vital to take control of your own employability and Life Sciences Employability Week is here to help, no matter what stage you are at in your employability journey.
Open to students from all years of study, the week will help you to explore career options, develop the skills employers need and make valuable connections who will share tips and advice on what you need to succeed. A list of sessions is provided below.

Additional sessions may be added – search “LSEW” in the events portal in Handshake to view all confirmed sessions. Life Sciences Employability Week is a HEAR accredited event and participation can count towards the Life Sciences Employability Award.
Monday 23rd November
- 11am – 12pm: “I don’t know what to do with my Life Science degree!”
- 1pm – 2pm: “Now you SME me": raising your commercial awareness and understanding of small-medium enterprises.

Tuesday 24th November

- 11am - 12pm: Getting ahead with Handshake!
- 1pm - 2pm: Making better applications for postgraduate study or research (including applications for PhDs
- 2pm - 3pm: Your Questions Answered- Meet the PhD Students
- 3pm - 4pm: A Spotlight on Internships and Placements
Wednesday 25th November: GET HIRED DAY
Representatives will share insights into their organisation, the roles available to you and their recruitment process. You will also have the opportunity to put your questions to the panellists too.
- 11am - Roles in Science Communications
- 12pm - Roles in the Pharmaceuticals Sector
- 1pm - Graduate roles where you'll work towards a postgraduate qualification
- 2pm - Graduate roles outside of science
- 3pm - Opportunities with SMEs
Thursday 26th November
- 11am - 12pm: An insight in to working in the charity and not-for-profit sector
- 1pm-2pm: Insider Imprint student journal: Are you interested in writing?
- 2pm - 3pm: An introduction to assessment centres with Ashfield Healthcare
- 3pm - 4.30pm: Insight into HealthTech
Friday 27th November
- 11am - 12pm: CV Essentials: Bin or Win?!
