Welcome to The Green Room
Posted on: 17 May 2021 in Enterprise
The Green Room started during the Coronavirus pandemic to give students with an interest in enterprise an opportunity to join an online community.
Students have:
- Shared opportunities
- Formed friendships
- A sense of belonging within a community of students with shared interests
- Helped each other sharing skills, expertise and providing solutions to problems. E.g. A student looking for a website for their enterprise has been able to utilise the skills from other students within the green room. This continues to support the peer to peer vision and values of the career studio.
- The ability to mix with students from across different schools and disciplines
The incentive for joining The Green Room does not stop at all of the above benefits, students are also first to be notified about new enterprise opportunities both internally and externally.
The feedback so far has been that having access to this community has enhanced the student experience, whilst providing students with a feeling like they have that extra layer of support when participating in programmes.
As a community we have decided to extend The Green Room offering with a WhatsApp group chat to support the MS Teams channel. This will encourage the students who are less engaged with the channel to join in with more informal chat discussions and ask more questions.
“There isn’t one correct route for students to begin to build their careers nowadays and it’s important for universities to support students in whichever path they want to take. For me, I have been focused around becoming an entrepreneur which goes against the ‘normal’ progression of getting a graduate job.
I joined The Green Room at the beginning of my Masters course and I couldn’t be more grateful for the work the team are doing. It has included me in a likeminded community of students and has consistently provided me with information on new opportunities relevant to enterprise development and is a safe space for me to ask for advice if needed which I think is so important for young entrepreneurs!”
University of Liverpool student, Phoebe Baldwin.
We currently have 160 + students within the community. We welcome all student and staff across the university to join, learn and share enterprising experiences and opportunities. For anyone who feels enterprise is not within their subject area, we would highly recommend they join, expand their knowledge and adopt an enterprising vision to build on a new culture for enterprise and entrepreneurship within the university.
