Progressing to Postgrad: Luke

Posted on: 25 November 2024 by Ruby O'Sullivan in Class of 2023

Luke Caldwell is a LLB Law graduate who is working as a Cryptocurrency & Investment Fraud Paralegal at Wealth Recovery Solicitors whilst studying for the LPC and Masters at The University of Law.

How did you hear about your role and decide to apply for it?

I heard about my role on LinkedIn and was recommended the LPC by my colleagues and manager.

How did you get to where you are now?

I began working for a firm specialising in credit hire, Principia Law, in September 2023 after I had graduated. This helped my find my feet in terms of starting my legal career, but I was eager to progress so began to look for openings in firms that offered the opportunity for a training contracts or that would offer support for post-graduate courses. I started at WRS in June 2024 after applying to role on LinkedIn and they were eager to facilitate anything that would help progress my career, and allowed me to enrol to the LPC and Masters course part time at the University of Law, giving me a study day each week to attend university in person.

Your favourite experience as part of your course?

My current role at WRS allows me to deal with complex cases and modern concepts like cryptocurrency, where the law is constantly changing and advancing to keep up with new technologies. It is also highly satisfying to be able to help clients who have been victims to such cruel and advanced scams.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Sometimes it has been difficult to juggle full-time work with my part time post-grad LPC and Masters course, but it is something I’m learning to find time where I can to keep up as the course progresses.

Top 3 Tips for current students and graduates:

  1. Don’t settle at your first graduate job, if you don’t think a place is right for you, find a place that is.
  2. Don’t be scared to ask your employer for things like study days that will enable you to further your career.
  3. Don’t rush into your post grad, if you feel like you need to take a year out- like I did- then do it.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
