I Got Hired: Rhea
Posted on: 14 November 2024 by Ruby O'Sullivan in Class of 2023
Rhea Opomu is a Class of 2023 LLB Law graduate who is now working a Project Manager at Places for People.
How did you hear about your role and decide to apply for it?
I saw the vacancy on Handshake and decided to apply as I wanted to keep an open mind when looking for graduate jobs. Project management sounded like it was a good fit for my personality and I liked PfP’s company ethos.
How did you get to where you are now?
I first applied on PfP’s website in their Emerging Talent section. Then I was asked to film a self-tape answering a few questions. After that, I was invited to an assessment day in Preston. This is where reality set in for me and I began to feel butterflies at the prospect of having a job after uni, particularly because it was a new industry. My family and friends encouraged me to be confident and ignore any feelings of doubt I had in myself.
Your favourite experience as part of your role?
My favourite experience so far, aside from loving my role, has definitely been meeting other graduates. We have all become really close and have built a good support system as we go alone this journey together.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The most challenging part was imposter syndrome. Coming from a legal background, I felt like a fish out of water as I knew nothing about project management. These fears are normal but it is important to not let them stop you from saying yes to opportunities.
Top 3 Tips for current students and graduates:
- Be open-minded: the perfect job for you may not even be on your radar! There are so many good grad schemes and companies willing to invest in you, so have a look at as many as possible!
- Go at your own pace: Everyone has different lives and barriers. It is important not to take too much notice of what other people are doing and how far along they are in their career. Focus on yourself and don’t be too hard on yourself.
- Enjoy your graduate experience: Whilst I love my day job, I also enjoy being in my graduate role. It is the perfect time to learn new skills and hone your craft.

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
