I Got Hired: Eimhir

Posted on: 30 August 2024 by Richard Finch in Class of 2023

Eimhir Dundas is a Class of 2023 BSc Geography graduate who is now working as a Graduate Transport Planner at Pell Frischmann.

How did you hear about your role and decide to apply for it?

My research and exploration of career options started by speaking to my current network, which included family and friends. Luckily, a family friend who completed the same course as me at a different university a few years before I did, mentioned that he is a Transport Planner and completed a graduate course with Pell Frischmann. He described the work as varied and interesting, and it made me feel like I wanted to apply for this great opportunity.

How did you get to where you are now?

Last summer, I had multiple interviews with different companies for various jobs. However, when I went for interviews with Pell Frischmann, something felt different - more passionate and personal. Despite not having completed any modules relating to Transport Planning during my 3 years at university, my seniors welcomed the fact that I am open to new things and am very happy to learn new skills. It felt good to get onto a graduate course as soon as I completed my studies too.

Your favourite experience as part of your role?

My favourite part of this role has been being part of a great team that appreciates every member individually, which means we can all thrive together and independently. Despite being one of the newest employees in the workplace, I feel valued and important in keeping the metaphorical cogs moving on a day-to-day basis. I particularly enjoy being part of projects where I have a relatively large role, such as being involved in stakeholder meetings and writing reports that will be distributed to local authorities or the public.

The most challenging part of your graduate journey?

I initially found it hard to completely accept that I was good or smart enough to have this job, as it can be challenging at times, but feedback from Line Managers and colleagues have proved that this fear is not justified. I am now finding more and more confidence in myself the longer I have been working there, which is in-turn improving the quality of my work.

Top 3 Tips for current students and graduates.

Bring everything you learnt (both socially and academically) into the future. My advice to current students and recent graduates would be:

  1. Be open to change.
  2. Be confident in your abilities.
  3. Be excited for the next chapter.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
