I Got Hired: Courtney
Posted on: 9 October 2024 by Ruby O'Sullivan in Class of 2023
Courtney Klemp is a Class of 2023 LLB Law graduate who is now working as a Paralegal at Scott Rees & Co Solicitors while studying the LLM SQE at The University of Law.
How did you hear about your role and decide to apply for it?
I live locally to the firm, so I was aware they had a vacancy for a Paralegal. I applied because I wanted work experience to build my CV through my master's degree to become a qualified solicitor. University of Law appealed to me as they offered additional training for both the SQE 1 and 2. These are the exams I need to pass to become qualified, therefore I chose to enrol with them and their LLM SQE course.
How did you get to where you are now?
My decision process was dependent on where I wanted to be within 5 years. I knew I wanted to be a qualified solicitor, so I was determined to get work experience and apply for my exams. Sources like LinkedIn have also helped me by allowing me to make connections with individuals in the legal sector and find places of work with vacancies like Scott Rees.
Furthermore, being a part of law societies and completing many Forage courses has also benefitted me by demonstrating my seriousness in my law career. Also, the huge amount of encouragement from my parents believing in me has contributed largely to where I am today.
Your favourite experience as part of your role?
Being in my job role for only a year, I received a promotion, so seeing hard work pay off and being rewarded has been my favourite experience. Also, seeing how my work affects clients and them thanking me and leaving such positive reviews is such a rewarding and wonderful part of the role.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
The most challenging part of my journey has been finding the motivation to continue with my studies, especially whilst working. Being in education most of your life and then choosing to study further to a master's is such a challenging task but seeing how much closer you are to your dream job is worth it.
