Yasmin: My Women in Tech Experience at HSBC
Posted on: 26 February 2025 by Richard Finch in Student experiences

Yasmin Amrani is a Mechanical Engineering Student at the University of Liverpool who has just taken part in a Women in Tech event at HSBC.
We caught up with Yasmin to find out about her experience on the four-day Women in Tech programme. This is what she said:
“Just wrapped up an incredible Women in Tech Programme at HSBC! I’ve gained invaluable insights into Engineering, Data, Cyber, and Business Analyst pathways, while also getting a first-hand look at HSBC’s dynamic and inclusive culture.
A highlight for me was hearing from Employee Resource Groups like Strive, which shed light on the challenges faced by students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and how much our backgrounds can shape our career trajectories. It was eye-opening to see the work being done to level the playing field.
The programme was a safe space where everyone felt comfortable sharing their unique experiences, and I was fortunate enough to shadow staff and observe their day-to-day work. Some standout moments included:
🔹 Engineering – Hands-on programming exercises
🔹 Cyber Security – Acting as an incident manager in a crisis scenario
🔹 Business Analyst – A group task where we had to design a property plan based on limited client questions
🔹 Data – An interactive session exploring current technology trends and their global impact
We also had the opportunity to engage with panels of staff across all pathways, gaining deeper insights into their careers and experiences.
The programme wrapped up with an inspiring personal branding session, encouraging us to reflect deeply on how we present ourselves and build our professional identity.
This experience has expanded my network, connected me with like-minded individuals, and reinforced my passion for a career in tech. I’m so grateful for the opportunity and excited for what’s next!"
