We recently said goodbye to Ujjawal, our amazing graduate intern. Before leaving he took some time to reflect on everything he's been involved with while with us.
As a former international student who faced challenges in the job market, I was thrilled to join the Communications and Engagement Team within the Careers and Employability department at the University of Liverpool. This role allowed me to support students on their employment journey, drawing from my own experiences and newfound expertise.
From day one, I felt valued and welcomed by my colleagues. My line manager, the head of our team, and even the director of the Careers and Employability team were very approachable and humble, making it easy to feel like a valued member of the group, rather than just an employee. They created an environment where ideas flourished, and everyone's contributions were appreciated.
During my time in this role, I had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives. Some of my key contributions included:
- Drafting informative posts on application strategy
- Sharing success stories of international students through case studies
- Conducting CV workshops
- Collaborating with career coaches to enhance guidance for international students
- Assisting graduates in finding roles within their chosen fields
One of the most enjoyable aspects of my role was creating engaging video content for our social media platforms. Working alongside my colleagues on these projects not only fostered team bonding but also allowed us to reach students in new and exciting ways.
Throughout my tenure, I gained valuable insights into the UK recruitment market, which proved instrumental in securing my next career move. This knowledge, combined with the practical experience of supporting students, has been invaluable for my professional growth.
What struck me most about the Careers and Employability team was their unwavering commitment to student success. Every team member, regardless of their position, shared a common goal: to support and empower students in their career journeys. Being part of this mission was both inspiring and fulfilling.
As I reflect on my time at the University of Liverpool, I can confidently say that I was part of a dream team. The support and shared vision created an exceptional work environment that I will truly miss.
To all the students I had the privilege of assisting and to my wonderful colleagues in the Careers and Employability team: thank you for making this experience unforgettable. Your dedication to student success is commendable, and I'm grateful to have been a part of this important mission.
As I move forward in my career, I'll carry with me the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the satisfaction of knowing that I contributed to helping fellow international students navigate their career paths. My time as an International Employability Experience Graduate at the University of Liverpool has been nothing short of amazing, and I'm excited to see how future graduates will continue to benefit from this exceptional team's efforts.
