Shubh Kantharia is a class of 2021 MSc Marketing graduate, now working as a Business Banking Relationship Executive at Barclays UK.
How did you get to where you are now?
Perseverance, observation and keep learning, that's how I have formulated a strategy for myself. Everytime I come across something unique or interesting, I try my best to know about it and if possible to learn it as well.
What has been your best experience as part of your role?
My favourite experience so far with the role is job satisfaction and the environment I am working in, as we all know clients can be icky at times or you may not be at your best sometimes, but the things that build your confidence up again is the environment you work in and you are satisfied with the responsibilities you carry out yourself.
What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?
For the most challenging part, most people think is rejection but for me it is how to deal with rejections and to find what areas need improvement. I understand in this scenario you will get rejections and unjustified disappointments as well but the key thing is how you put that behind and start applying for new opportunities with a fresh approach.
What are your top tips for other students and graduates?
- Not to compare your journey or your progression with anyone as everyone posses different experiences and different skills the destination is different for everyone.
- To possibly have a third person's point of view whilst reviewing a decision that can help you can gain a balanced outer perspective to your scenarios and problems.
- To get the jobs you want have separately curated CV's for respective job applications, eg for a job related to Marketing enlighten your experience in Marketing more apprehensively and whilst applying for a Sales or any other corresponding domains highlight those experiences correctly as this would not only shows your best abilities in that specific field but also shows a variety of exposure you have gained.
