Gift: My Careers Fair Experience

Law student Gift Olanipekun attended the Liverpool Spring Careers Fair on 19 March and we caught up with her afterwards to find out about her experience.

The Liverpool Spring Careers Fair took place on Wednesday 19 March in the Crypt Hall of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Second year Law student Gift Olanipekun attended the event and we caught up with her afterwards to find out about her experience and what advice she'd give to fellow students. This is what she said:

"Today, I had the pleasure of attending the Spring Fair organized by the University of Liverpool Careers & Employability team at The Crypt Hall, and what a fantastic experience it was! From insightful conversations to eye-opening career advice, it was a reminder that networking isn’t just about collecting contacts, it’s about building meaningful connections.

I had the chance to speak with Lynne Furlong from Strawberry Field, Quentin DOMENJOUD from AlphaSights, an ambassador from Student Circus, Jonathan Kenda from Enterprise Mobility, representatives from the UK Home Office, and many more! Each conversation offered something unique whether it was about career pathways, work opportunities, or industry insights, I left with valuable takeaways.

One thing I’ve learned? Opportunities are everywhere you just have to step forward and seize them! As Steve Jobs once said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.” The conversations you have today may shape your career in ways you never imagined.

If you're still figuring things out (it's totally fine), just keep showing up! Attend events, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

I’m not saying I have it all figured out, I don’t. I still have moments of doubt, and I still push myself to show up even when I feel uncertain. But one thing I’ve learned is that opportunities don’t just come to you; you have to go after them.

There have been times when I hesitated to attend an event or reach out to someone because I felt like I wasn’t “ready” or “good enough.” But every time I took that small step, I realized that growth happens in the process, not just at the destination. The key is to start imperfectly, but consistently.

You never know which conversation might be the one to open doors for you. So, keep going, keep showing up, and trust that every step forward counts!"
