My Digital Coach Experience: Semester One Highlights
Posted on: 18 December 2023 by Richard Finch in Student experiences
Ellie is one of our team of new Digital Coaches - University of Liverpool students who have been trained in the latest digital skills. In this post she looks back at her highlights from this semester.
When I walked into the seminar room where I’d be delivering my first Digital Skills Session, my heart might as well have been in my throat. I’d gone over my slideshow countless times beforehand, reciting the content until it was burned to my memory—but I was still as nervous as the day I took my driving test. And it wasn’t until I began to speak, watching as the students in attendance began to engage with the session and offer up ideas, that I finally felt at ease.
Becoming a Digital Coach for the University has undoubtedly been one of the most rewarding experiences ever. From learning an array of Digital Skills, to turning my passion for Social Media Marketing into an interactive learning session, I can safely say that this experience has truly been like no other. If you know me personally, you’ll know that I am very much an introvert. I never understood how important it was to be pushed out of my comfort zone until I became a Coach, and ever since, my confidence has skyrocketed.
Prior to becoming a Digital Coach, I’d never had any experience in leading a coaching session, or even teaching as a whole. Now, after delivering 4 sessions across the term, coaching has quickly become something I enjoy, and being able to share my knowledge of Social Media Marketing to other students really is amazing. Having a passion for my chosen Digital Skill has certainly helped me in terms of delivering the sessions, which is something I love about the Digital Accelerator Programme.
With a total of 50 students across the semester attending my Digital Skills Sessions, the feedback been overwhelmingly positive, and I’ve even had several students stay behind at the end to ask questions, or to even ask for advice for their own Instagram pages. To know that students are walking away with newfound knowledge that they can take with them in the future is truly a fantastic feeling!
Here’s what some of my fellow Coaches have said about their own experiences:
"Delivering my Digital Skills Sessions was a rewarding experience, particularly in enhancing my public speaking and communication skills!"
Andy Su, Intro to Generative Ais.
"I found it a great opportunity to develop my confidence in talking to other students, and I really enjoyed delivering the sessions. I’m now thinking of going into teaching after my degree, something I never thought I’d do previously!"
Blake Jones, Intro to Graphic Design.
After such a phenomenal experience over this past semester, I cannot wait to resume my Instagram Social Media Marketing Masterclass in Semester 2!
