My Internship Experience: Josh

Aerospace Engineering student Joshua Tang took part in this year's Handshake Innovation Challenge in Berlin. Read about his experience here.

Hi there! My name is Josh, and I have just completed my Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Liverpool! Outside of my studies you can find me flying around Liverpool in a Piper (training for my PPL), taking photos for Guild Society’s events & graduations, running two societies whilst balancing my degree, or just working for the university as a student ambassador!

What was your favourite part of #berlinnovation?

My favourite part of the trip was the networking aspect! I was able to meet over 60 students from the University of Liverpool, Berlin School of Economics & Law and Ulster University. Being able to collaborate with so many like-minded peers to develop a sustainable and innovative product/service for the Handshake platform was such a fun aspect for me. It was also a chance to meet people I would have never met before, and be able to stay in touch with each other over Linkedin!

As a student, what do you look for when using career platforms like Handshake?

When I use career platforms, the first thing that I am interested in is the transparency and how easy it is to apply for jobs. I don’t want to be left in the vagueness of the job description, so I do appreciate how easy Handshake makes the process of searching for and ultimately applying for jobs in all sectors! I also appreciate the ability to reach out to one of the current employees or hiring manager to feel less pressure when attempting to find someone to speak to.

What skills have you developed as a result of taking part in #berlinnovation?

Working in a small diverse team allowed for rapid development of key transferrable skills, something that I was able to enhance as a part of this challenge was my pitching and teamworking skills. Being given the chance to speak to a large room of people about a product we made only a few hours ago definitely gives a boost to one’s confidence in pitching.

If you could sum up your #berlinnovation2024 experience in 3 words what would they be?

Inclusive, Fun, Rewarding.
