A letter to first year me: Ali

Ali is a Class of 2021 BA Business Management with a Year in Industry student. Here, he looks back at his time at the University of Liverpool and thinks about what he would tell his first-year self.

Dear First Year Me,

I know moving over the Irish sea, away from the comforts of home was a big challenge. However, I am really proud of how you got on. Putting yourself out there to join different societies and working for careers ensured you met a wide range of people. The ability to branch out and not stick to school friends was the best decision I could have made as I have made so many new friends which I will now have for life.

I would like to think my academic advisor, careers managers and all my friends/family who supported me in maturing and growing into a mature adult through my university experience. Moving forward I am not scared but excited as I move into my sports journalism masters. Having a taste of what working life was like in my year in industry has helped push me on to get myself into the working world and grow even further as a person.

Although it was sad to finish virtually, I am so happy to gave ended a big chapter of my life. My advice so anyone new coming to university is the most cliche thing but – be yourself! Put yourself out there and you will achieve everything and more.

Thank you University of Liverpool,

Alastair
