Expertise
Mixing is at the heart of many manufacturing processes,
producing emulsions and dispersions which form the
basis of numerous medical, personal care and food
products. The microstructure of such mixes can affect
product performance and this is influenced by the mixing
technology deployed.
To fully realise the potential of nanomaterials, the
University has, in collaboration with Unilever and
Maelstrom Advanced Process Technologies, developed
a unique, high pressure fluid processing laboratory: the
Ultra Mixing and Processing Facility.
Businesses can use the facility to explore the potential
of ultra high energy mixing to deliver new products
which benefit from process innovation and advances in
formulation. We work to determine both the nature of the
raw materials and your goals for a particular emulsion/
soft solid dispersion. Our expert team uses its experience
of working with similar materials to design a series of
experiments. The Facility can conduct these experiments
and deliver samples of the mixed formulation with data
resulting from analysis of these samples.
