Expertise
Over the last 15 years entrepreneurship and the
management of small firms have become increasingly
important topics in the context of UK research. Within the
University of Liverpool Management School there is a
strong focus on improving the effectiveness of SMEs by
supporting innovative and entrepreneurial leadership and
developing strong managers.
Entrepreneurs need to be visionaries at the leading edge
of their field, but also need to possess excellent business
management skills. Most entrepreneurs recognise
that they are permanent students who constantly
need to learn.
We provide numerous opportunities and programmes
to facilitate this life-long learning, helping nascent
entrepreneurs to start a business and established
business owners to grow and finance their firms.
The ‘IDEAS at Daresbury’ partnership promotes
effective knowledge exchange in an environment
which combines SMEs, large corporations,
universities and strategic government-funded
science. IDEAS is free of charge to eligible
high-tech SMEs and provides advice and support
on the essentials of customer insight and
marketing, planning and strategy.
Other Management School initiatives to support
entrepreneurs and SMEs are:
LEAD – a 10-month business and leadership
development programme for SMEs
Centre for Leadership Development (CFLD)
IDEAS Partnership – encourage innovation within
high-growth tech businesses
