Postgraduate study
Working at the heart of critical topics in science – including drug design and development, tissue engineering, cancer, omics, programming, and genetic engineering - we offer a breadth and depth of study choice which is unrivalled in the UK. We have a thriving postgraduate community pursuing a vast range of courses, from CPD modules and diplomas to master's degrees and PhDs, across the full biosciences spectrum.
Postgraduate taught
We have a portfolio of master's of science (MSc) and master's of research (MRes) programmes in the knowledge areas we research.
- Bioinformatics MSc
- Biotechnology MSc
- Cancer Biology and Therapy MSc
- Pharmacology and Toxicology MSc.
Postgraduate research
Students on our MRes programme gain in-depth research experience through a year-long research project. Selecting the right project is a key decision and we do this during admission to the programme. In addition, four taught modules in biological sciences and personal development deepen scientific knowledge and skills.
We also host a variety of PhD students from doctoral training programmes including MRC, BBSRC, and NERC. Charity funded PhD students including those from Breast Cancer Now, North West Cancer and British Heart Foundation are also hosted in our institute. We hold several international partnerships, including A*STAR, Mahidol and RIKEN, as well as industrial partnerships. We also welcome self-funded students.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
We routinely run CPD courses in bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and imaging. In addition, we also run a special CPD course that is open to the public - 'Cancer in Context'.
