The Max Planck Institute for nuclear physics (MPIK) at Heidelberg is part of the MPG and an outstanding German research institution. A rich variety of research is performed, including 6 independent divisions which dedicate their activities to the field of high-precision physics with stored ions, particle and astrophysics, theoretical quantum dynamics, and experimental quantum dynamics and control.
The institute is strongly involved in national and international collaborations, as well as a number of EU projects. In many of its key research areas, it has unique expertise and produced outstanding scientific results.
