On October 11th, 10am-11.30 in the Library, the School of the Arts will be hosting Ian Tabbron, CEO of Shakespeare North, and John Flaherty, Executive Director of Place at Knowsley Council.
Ian and John will be giving a presentation about Shakespeare North Trust, and its part in Knowsley Council's wider regeneration plans. Prescot in Knowsley was the site of The Playhouse, the only purpose-built Elizabethan playhouse outside London. Shakespeare North, with funding from central government and from Liverpool City Council, is constructing a replica playhouse there, working with Helm Architecture and Austin-Smith: Lord of Liverpool. No plans of The Playhouse are extant, so the theatre will be based on plans by Inigo Jones from 1629 for the Cockpit-in-Court theatre.
The visit will be an opportunity for the School and the wider University to explore possibilities of collaboration with Shakespeare North.
All colleagues are welcome, and especially those with an interest in Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre and history, heritage and urban regeneration, and public engagement, as well, of course, as residents of Knowsley Borough.
