My research has mostly been concerned with the links between teaching and practice - temperamentally I have always found it necessary to do both, and in fact I thinks it is essential that a proportion of those who teach and engage in research should also be engaged professionally. It is unfortunate if students are the only members of a school of architecture who are expected to make sense of the relationship between theory and practice. I have completed two monographs on twentieth century architects (see "publications") and in both cases I have sought to establish their theoretical position and how it relates to their buildings and projects.
