Born in Singapore, Edward Hy Wong came to The University of Liverpool School of Architecture in the 1950s and graduated with a BArch (Hons) in 1961. Upon returning to Singapore, he became an active member of the Singapore Institute of Architects his first role being as a member of the Publication Committee. In the following two years he was elected as a Council Member and held a position on the Practice Committee. In 1968, he became Honorary Secretary of the Singapore Planning and Urban Research Group and was subsequently promoted to Chairman holding that position until 1970. That same year, he was appointed by the Minister for Law and National Development as a representative for the Singapore Institute of Architects on the Development Control Committee and a member of the Singapore Planning and Urban Research Group. In 1983 Edward was appointed as an external examiner for the University of Singapore. In 1988 he was made Honorary Secretary and two years later in 1990, Vice President of the Singapore Institute of Architects. Edward Hy Wong's professional life has led him to be appointed a Managing Director of the architectural firm of Alfred Wong Partnership (AWP) where his direct role is in charge of design and documentation of many major projects including masterplanning residential, retail and commercial complexes. He has a particular expertise in marina design - a field he is well qualified to be a leading consultant in as he is a keen ocean-going yachtsman. Edward Hy Wong is both a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Architects and an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
