LSA researchers present at the 37th Passive and Low Energy Architecture conference in Poland
Research undertaken by PhD, MPhil and MSc students in the Liverpool School of Architecture was presented at the 37th Passive and Low Energy Architecture (PLEA) conference, which took place in Wroclaw, Poland, between the 25th and 28th June 2024.
Four papers were given that related to some of the on-going research themes in the School’s Environment, Sustainability and Technology in Architecture (ESTA) research group. The papers focussed on the passive cooling of an Indonesian school building, the use of green roofs to improve the microclimate in a district of Athens, the energy retrofit of an Indonesian office and thermal comfort in a Ghanaian university library:
- Hasna Hanifa and Steve Sharples, ‘An analysis of reflective roof insulations, thermal comfort and carbon emissions for an elementary school design in Indonesia’
- Asmaa Sadou Ammar and Steve Sharples, ‘Urban Heat Island resilience in Athens: analysing the effectiveness of green roofs for current and future climates’
- Nissa Ardiani, Steve Sharples and Haniyeh Mohammadpourkarbasi, ‘A case study of the multi-objectives optimisation of an office energy retrofit in Indonesia’s hot-humid climate’
- Parisa Pourabrishami, Haniyeh Mohammadpourkarbasi, Daniel Nukpezah, Iain Jackson, Irene Appeaning Addo, Rexford Assasie Oppong and Steve Sharples, ‘Evaluation of thermal comfort in library buildings in the tropical climate of Ghana - case study of the Balme Library in the University of Ghana, Accra, Ghana’
The papers from Hasna Hanifa and Asmaa Sadou Ammar were developed from research projects they undertook when studying on the School’s MSc programme ‘Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability in Architecture (CRESTA)’.
