The project focuses on the abandoned York Road tube station in Islington, London - the ideal location to serve the demands of the new King’s Cross Central Development and Islington’s neighbouring estates.
The station acts as the catalyst for change and regeneration within the surrounding area as well as a means by which important areas of the Borough are reconnected.
The creation of a ‘green heart’ for Islington, in response to nearby parkland, takes the underground experience in a unique direction with a meandering, heavily planted, terraced descent down to the station’s platform.
The regeneration of the surrounding social housing estate continues this green emphasis throughout and aims to create a cohesive family-orientated neighbourhood centred on the revived station and its surrounding commercial area.
