As the largest and most populous country in Central Europe, Germany is an amalgamation of 16 states each of which of course possess distinct and different cultures. It is home to a range of large cultural cities from Hamburg, as a major port city, to Berlin, as a cultural center.
It is one of the main economically influential countries in the world. Known for its steadfast engineering of high-quality products today, Germany is also a nation with roots that date back to Roman Empire and even further to The Celts whom are believed to have been the very first inhabitants of Germany. Since the early Middle Ages Germany has begun to split into hundreds of small states but when the Napoleonic wars were in fruition the process of unification began, to which ended in 1871 when a number of states united to form the German Empire.
Dessau is a small city with a population of around 60,000; it is located in the German Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt, which is 77 miles southwest of Berlin. As the third oldest city in the Saxony-Anhalt region of Germany, Dessau is steeped in rich architecture. The Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz is an example of a unique combination between buildings and parks; the 18th century Garden Kingdom of Dessau Wörlitz balances garden design and architecture all to give expression of political views, orchestrated by the Duke of Anhalt Dessau during 1740-1817 as a response to the Enlightenment. The city also has good transport links to Berlin and other places across Germany.
Anhalt University’s most important concern for them as an educational institute is: practical relevance. Hochschule Anhalt takes every subject and develops learning schemes, modes of delivery and assessed work all with the focus and emphasis on practical training. Some of the forms of delivery include: elearning, small study groups, excellent research and first-class contacts to offer students relevant and applicable skills for a successful start to their career, whether they be a home student or not. The Dessau campus is very close to the city centre and is situated right next door to the famous and influential architecture school of Bauhaus. The state of the art facilities provide students with necessary resources and equipment for studying and include the university's own printshop, the large pottery workshop and the computer labs.
