In this special instalment of the Guest Lecture series, two current Liverpool students will share their creative projects and experiences as Venice Fellows at this year’s Venice Biennale.

In partnership with over 40 UK higher education institutions, the Venice Biennale have selected and are now supporting 66 Venice Fellows in 2024. Venice Fellows represent the UK at the British Pavilion during John Akomfrah's exhibition at the 60th International Art Exhibition from 16 April to 24 November 2024 as well developing their own creative and scholarly projects during their one-month experience in Venice. Through storytelling, deep listening exercises, and honest exploration into creative and collaborative processes, the Fellows nurture their skills, including empathy, intercultural fluency and teamwork.

Biography Alice Holmes

Alice Holmes is currently studying in the MArch course at Liverpool School of Architecture, following two years working as a part 1 with CJCT architects in Leeds.

My project for the Venice Fellowship 2024 focuses on analyzing the Castello district, home to the Venice Biennale and where I lived during our month-long stay. Venice is often called the 'unmappable city,' so my goal is to capture the essence of Castello through alternative means such as diagrams and photography, highlighting the unique features that define the city's character.
