Scotland is a place exuding the qualities of the sublime. Qualities of vastness, obscurity, darkness, magnificence. Aspects of the sublime provide a distinct context for the art and architecture of Scotland, and for the practice and work of Stallan Brand. During his time in Glasgow, James Browne has sought the sublime of Scotland’s cityscapes, of awe inspiring scenery, of a unique cultural identity. Through this talk James will explore Scotland’s unique context, his interest in seeking the sublime, and how this has shaped his experiences and lessons as an architect in practice.
