Wednesday 22nd November 2023, Room G18, 19-23 Abercromby Square
'Laboratory of the Future' 'Foreigners Everywhere'
The Venice Biennale (Italian: La Biennale di Venezia) was first hosted in Venice Italy in 1895 as a concept of locally based artists, art lovers and 'mayor poet' Ricardo Selvatico as 'an artistic event with an international profile.'
It is now an internationally re-knowned event hosted annually by the Biennale Foundation. The official Biennale exhibition is located in two venues in the east of the city; the Arsenale and the original Giardini di Castello. The Giardini is home to the Central Exhibition Pavilion and 29 national pavilions each of which presents a showcase exhibition .
The Venice Fellowships Programme is a unique opportunity for a one month group residency inside the British Pavilion during Venice’s Biennale festival. A Fellow’s role is that of a public facing exhibition ambassador at the same time as carrying research fieldwork in Venice for their own creative practice. The Fellowship is run by British Council and a series of Partner Institutions. University of Liverpool’s School of Architecture is one such partner.
