Stephanie Strain
‘La Colline de l’art’
Stephanie Straine, Assistant Curator, Tate Liverpool, will discuss this summer’s Liverpool Biennial/Tate Liverpool co-commission of the radical French architect Claude Parent for the museum’s Wolfson Gallery ground floor space (5 July – 26 October 2014).
Parent’s resulting structure, ‘La colline de l’art’, operated, in the architect’s words, as a ‘machine for viewing art’: specifically, artworks personally selected by Parent from the Tate collection. This lecture will reflect upon the commissioning, curating and construction processes, the challenges of building a new architectural structure within an existing, Grade I listed building, the nature of the art/architecture collaboration, and the ongoing use of the structure as part of the next exhibition.
