Dr Ataa Alsalloum is currently an Honorary Associate at the University of Liverpool School of Architecture where she took her PhD in 2011. Her thesis was under the title: Heritage-led Sustainable Urban Regeneration: the development of an assessment model for World Heritage Sites cities.

Ataa was a lecturer in Damascus University, School of Architecture from 2011 to 2016 and also taught in private universities in Damascus during that time. A member of  INTBAU - International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism, UK, she is also an Affiliate member of the IHBC – the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and a permanent reviewer for the Green Lines Institute conferences, Portugal.

She is currently researching heritage-led post-war reconciliation in the Middle East and North Africa region.
