In this lecture, Ab will discuss the potential of light weight, versatile interventions, and re-purposing of existing architecture to minimise waste and maximise impact, ensuring our cities can respond to our changing needs.

The talk will consider the role of public realm as an external opportunity for transformation of behaviour through placement of provocative objects, exploring the value of using what can be found. Ab will look at examples of dry fix systems and object-based solutions like those utilised in the Japanese artist studio ‘The Fishmarket’, and use of local materials in projects like Thai festival ‘Wonderfruit’, exploring their ability to repurpose and reinvent a space without the need for costly demolition and construction, and will consider how collaboration with local makers, craftsmen and factories can equally reduce energy and transportation costs.
