Historical Archaeology
Focusing on the emergence of the modern global world, this group's research expertise and fieldwork projects range from Britain and Ireland in the Middle Ages to Colonial Australia, Chile, the Falkland Islands, and the Caribbean.
About
This interdisciplinary group brings together archaeologists, curators, historians, and archivists across Liverpool whose research interests encompass the archaeology of colonialism, death and burial, slavery, internment camps, public health, medieval architecture, craft production, museology, and cultural heritage.
We combine the analysis of material culture, archival research, and oral history to get a deeper understanding of how the modern world has been (and continue to be) crafted.
Examples of our projects include the archaeology of Canning Graving Docks in Liverpool, of Rainford Tennis Courts in St Helens, the Human Remains project, the Archaeology of Slavery—St Kitts-Nevis Digital Archaeology, the Silenced Slavery, Historic Graveyards and Cemeteries, and the Rushen Abbey Excavations.
