The use of Astrology to legitimise the rule of the Roman Emperors.
Biography
I am a Roman history student how aspects of astrological belief were used by Emperors in the early imperial period to help legitimise and strengthen their positions, especially after the creation of a new imperial dynasty such as with Augustus and Vespasian. I have delivered research focusing on the use of the Julian Star on Republican coinage as a form of personal identity for Augustus, as well as preparing for an upcoming presentation on the link between the star Spica and the birth of Octavian.
Research Interests
My research interests extend to how religion and politics coexisted with each other in the Roman world. I have particular interest in how religion could be used to support a politician in their political goals as well as undermine their opponents.
