Clinical Skills for Advanced Practitioners (HEAL482.1)
This module provides learners with knowledge and understanding of the core body systems and clinical skills with regard to effective physical and social care assessment techniques and interpretation of diagnostic data to reach a differential diagnosis.

Who is the module for?
The module is designed for practising, registered healthcare professionals and can be taken as an optional module as part of a wider programme. The module can be used to support continuous professional development.
Module details and indicative content
Learners will evaluate the theory and evidence base required to undertake a systematic clinical examination applying anatomical and physiological principles in order to develop a differential diagnosis. You will consider and apply appropriate strategies and interventions to effectively perform a clinical history and examination utilising a red flag approach.
Additionally, learners will be expected to assess clinical data including arterial blood gas analysis, ECG, x-ray, biochemistry, haematology and bacteriology and to evaluate current public health prevention and promotion strategies to include: mental health; public health; wider determinants of health and social prescribing and long term condition management.
How you are assessed
There are two summative assessments:
- An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
- A 2 hour unseen written examination.
To support summative assessment, there are opportunities to undertake formative assessment.
