Ophthalmic Care of Patients with Special Educational Needs (SEN) due to Neurological Impairment (ORTH403)
This module has been designed to allow learners to develop a critical understanding of current and emerging strategies in the diagnosis, management and holistic care of the ophthalmic care of patients with special educational needs which will enable them to practice as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in the care of these patients.

Who is the module for?
The module is designed for practising, registered healthcare professionals. The module can be used to support continuous professional development.
Module details and indicative content
Learners will assess the theoretical framework of the clinical assessment of SEN patients and apply a critical appraisal of literature in relation to the management of patients with SEN.
You will use evidence based knowledge of the causes of brain disorders, their treatment and the implications for visual development and function, and apply and reflect on the clinical investigation of patients with SEN.
How you are assessed
There are two summative assessments:
- A practical assessment in the form of an oral presentation
- A coursework assessment in the form of a critical evaluation of a component of the ophthalmic assessment.
