Neurology for Advanced Clinical Practice (ORTH410)

This module has been designed to enable learners to develop a critical understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of neurological conditions. The module content will encourage the development of the learner's clinical skills in the care of patients with neurological conditions, supporting their development as an advanced clinical practitioner in neurology.

Part time delivery, with the module delivered in one semester. The module runs in semester 2.

Who is the module for?

The module is designed for practising, registered healthcare professionals. The module can be used to support continuous professional development.

Module details and indicative content

Learnerswill critically explore the pathophysiology of neurological conditions and their impact on function, and evaluate the clinical investigations employed in the assessment of neurological conditions.

They will also discuss the clinical management of neurological conditions and associated complications and the role of the multidisciplinary team in the care of this patient group, and demonstrate the ability to recognise the limitations of their role and that of other disciplines within the practice setting.

How you are assessed

There are two summative assessments:

  • A 20-minute video presentation/log
  • A 2500-word critical review

To support summative assessment, there are opportunities to undertake formative assessment.
