Developing Practice in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT), Administration and Care (CANC701)

This module has been created to enable learners to critically evaluate and demonstrate competency in the management and care of patients with solid and haematological tumours receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT).

Who is the module for?

The module is designed for practising, registered healthcare professionals. The module is a standalone option which can be used to support continuous professional development.

Module details and indicative content

You will evaluate critically the decision making, risk assessment and therapeutic intervention in relation to the management and holistic care of the patient receiving SACT and examine critically the professional policy, health and safety regulations and legal aspects relating to the administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy.

Learners will also: reflect critically on own professional and clinical skill development; analyse critically the pharmacological properties of anti-cancer drugs and ritically evaluate the physiological impact of systemic anti-cancer therapies including chemotherapeutic agents on individuals.

How you are assessed

There are three summative assessments:

  • A practical assessment – Production of Clinical Practice Competency Portfolio (a minimum of 75 hours)
  • A 3000-word written assessment - critical analysis of current practice in relation to service improvement need and potential improvement strategy
  • A 20-minute verbal presentation on the topic of service improvement need and potential improvement strategy
