Cancer care, treatment and recovery
We place particular emphasis on researching the various aspects of a cancer patient's care journeys from diagnosis, to treatment and rehabilitation.
In the UK, one in two people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Treatments such as radiotherapy are highly effective at destroying cancer cells, whilst requiring accurate planning and delivery.
Our research is focussed on optimising radiotherapy technologies for patient outcomes and support. This includes how new MR-based technology can help improve the accuracy of treatment and how emerging virtual reality applications can help with the patient journey.
Cancer and its treatment can substantially affect peoples' functioning, requiring adjustments to daily life, including physical and emotional recovery. We research ways in which supportive care and rehabilitation can improve outcomes for patients and their families and how best to integrate these into clinical practice.
