A university group committed to the improvement of the mental wellbeing of staff and students are inviting visitors to their upcoming mindfulness sessions.

The IVES Wellbeing Group, formed within the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences, are inviting School of Health Sciences staff and students to the events that they already have scheduled for throughout the first five months of the year.

Running for 50 minutes each, the sessions are intended to provide participants with an opportunity to “recharge, refocus and find balance” amidst the busy nature of university life.

The organiser, Professor Carri Westgarth, said: “In our fast-paced world, taking time for mindfulness is an invaluable self-care practice. These monthly sessions are designed to provide attendees with a sanctuary of stillness.

“Mindfulness is a proven method for improving focus, reducing anxiety, and boosting mental clarity. It can help us navigate the demands of university life with grace and poise.

“No prior experience is necessary, and all are welcome. These monthly sessions are an opportunity to prioritise self-care and personal growth. We look forward to having you join us on this journey toward a calmer, more balanced, and resilient you.”

The sessions will be led by the experienced mindfulness practitioner Louis McGloughlin who is Director of the Wellbeing Campus. He will teach participants techniques that cultivate inner peace, reduce stress and enhance their overall wellbeing.

The group are committed to providing:

  • Guided mindfulness meditation to calm the mind and ease stress
  • Practical tools to integrate mindfulness into daily routines
  • A supportive and inclusive community of likeminded students and staff
  • A safe space for self-reflection and growth
  • A chance to nurture mental and emotional resilience

The events will mostly take place in the Owen Williams Room at Leahurst House although those who cannot make the sessions in person can attend virtually via Microsoft Teams (live or recorded) by accessing the IVES Wellbeing Activities-O365-Team.

Alternatively, the 21st March session will be held at the modified time of 2pm on the Liverpool Campus in the Waterhouse Building (in the first floor seminar room) which is part of the School of Veterinary Science.

The sessions are scheduled for:

  • 15th February - 5pm
  • 21st March - 2pm (Liverpool)
  • 18th April - 5pm
  • 16th May - 1pm
