Our values
As a values-led institution, these principles are designed to guide our decision-making, inform our actions, and shape our community. They help us define who we are, what we stand for, and why our University is a place where students, staff, researchers, and partners can thrive.
Why do we have values?
Our values ensure every decision made within the University aligns with our core principles, providing a consistent and clear direction for our University. We use them to foster a culture of integrity, where everyone responsibly contributes to a positive and supportive community.
Through our values, we convey who we are as an organisation to help potential students, staff, and partners understand our ethos and decide if our University aligns with their values and goals.
What are our values?
Our core values were developed as part of Liverpool 2031, our strategic framework. They reflect what is most important for the people who work and study here, as well as showcasing what we stand for as an institution. They also define our growth ambition and the steps needed to achieve our goals.
Ambitious
We dream big and make things happen.
Our ambition drives us to set high standards and pursue excellence in everything we do. We have the confidence to make bold decisions that lead to significant achievements. This fearless pursuit of success ensures our students, staff, and partners reach their fullest potential and make impactful contributions.
Collaborative
Together, we achieve more.
We know the importance of putting our people at the heart of all we do. And we know when people work together, they can achieve great things. We extend this to everything we do as a University, using our partnerships and collective expertise to achieve our goals and work towards common areas of success, whether that’s on a local level, or with our trusted network of partners across the globe.
Inclusive
Shaped by diversity, powered by difference.
We are committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and supported to succeed. By championing inclusivity, we create a community where everyone feels empowered to grow and contribute to our goals, regardless of who they are, where they’ve come from or what experiences they may have faced in life. We know inclusivity means being able to draw on diverse lived experiences to help us all achieve together.
Innovative
Original thinking with an independent spirit.
Innovation is at the heart of our approach to education, research and collaboration. We encourage creative thinking by reimagining possibilities and breaking new ground. We are bold, original thinkers, and that extends to everything we do. We want to be at the heart of new teaching methods and areas of research that help the University make an impact on the real world, through our world-leading research and our impactful network of graduates.
Responsible
A focus on doing the right thing.
Creating positive change is part of our commitment to individual and collective responsibility. This ensures we consider the broad impact of our actions, whatever they may be and work towards having a positive effect on the world around us, whether that’s through more sustainable actions, more inclusive practices, or making sure we have a focus on tackling some of the most important issues facing the wider world today.
